What is it
Alberta has no land transfer tax. Instead, the Land Titles Office charges a registration fee based on the property's value, which is far lower than land transfer taxes in other provinces.
How it works
The title transfer fee is a base amount of roughly $50 plus about $1.50 for every $5,000 (or part thereof) of property value — equivalent to roughly 0.03% of the price.
Calculation methodology
This calculator applies the flat base fee plus the per-value increment to estimate the Land Titles Office registration fee. A separate, smaller mortgage registration fee applies if the purchase is financed and is not included.
Exemptions & reliefs
There is no land transfer tax to be exempt from in Alberta — only the modest Land Titles registration fee applies.
