Australian Stamp Duty (Transfer Duty) by State
Stamp duty โ officially transfer duty in most states โ is charged by each Australian state and territory, not the federal government. Every state uses progressive brackets, but the brackets and rates differ enough that the same home can attract tens of thousands of dollars more duty in one state than another.
Most states offer first home buyer exemptions or concessions below a price cap, and every mainland state adds a foreign purchaser surcharge for buyers who aren't citizens or permanent residents. Choose a state below for its full bracket table and calculator.
