Canadian Land Transfer Tax by Province
Canada has no national land transfer tax — each province sets its own. Ontario charges Land Transfer Tax (with a second municipal tax in Toronto), British Columbia charges Property Transfer Tax, and Quebec charges a transfer duty known as the “welcome tax”. Alberta has no land transfer tax at all, only modest land titles registration fees.
Most provinces offer first-time buyer rebates or exemptions, and some add surcharges for foreign buyers. Choose a province below for its brackets and a calculator.
