Quebec Welcome Tax (Land Transfer Duty) Calculator

Quebec's "Welcome Tax" (taxe de bienvenue), officially the land transfer duty, is charged on a progressive scale and collected by the municipality where the property is located.

Most municipalities use the provincial minimum brackets. Montreal applies its own additional higher brackets above $500,000, which can push its effective rate above the provincial minimum.

This calculator applies Quebec's standard provincial brackets, used by most municipalities outside Montreal. Montreal's additional higher brackets are not modelled.

There is no general provincial first-time buyer rebate; some municipalities, including Montreal, offer their own local rebate programs.

Brackets reflect the schedule in effect from January 2024.
