Stamp Duty for Women in India: State-wise Concessions
Several Indian states charge women lower stamp duty to encourage property ownership by women. Because stamp duty is a state subject, the discount — and whether it exists at all — depends entirely on where the property is. Registering a home in a woman's name can save ₹1,00,000 on a ₹50,00,000 property in Delhi.

Of the states we cover, Maharashtra, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan charge women buyers a lower stamp duty rate than men. Karnataka, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh charge the same rate regardless of gender.

In Rajasthan, women pay 5.00% stamp duty against 6.00% for men and 5.00% for joint (male and female) ownership. On a ₹50,00,000 property a woman pays ₹3,00,000 in stamp duty and registration, saving ₹50,000.
It depends on the state. Some states apply an intermediate rate to joint male–female ownership, while others give joint owners no discount at all — the table above shows the joint rate for each state that offers one. The full concession generally requires the woman to be the sole owner.
